The Apostle Paul wrote our foundational text this morning. He penned this letter to address various issues taking place within the Church at Corinth. If you were to study the entire book you would discover that Paul addressed;
Divisions in the Church
Discipline in the Church
Difficulties in the Church
Finally, Disbelief in the Church - this is what I want to home in on. In the generation that we are living in, people are losing their grip on their faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ. As a result of losing their faith, their service to the Lord was affected.
In the area of time, talent, and treasure. Notice what Paul tells them in the same chapter.
1 Corinthians 15:33
KJV 1900
33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
The Apostle Paul talks to them about how dangerous evil communication can be in their lives. I recently heard a story just on how powerful bad communication can be. A young Christian girl was serving the Lord faithfully. God was using her tremendously. However, she had a problem in that she was overweight. This problem plagued her and the devil fought her in this area. One day while at work, she started communicating with a young man (who it was found out later did not mean her any good); who said to her “I like big women”. That one evil communication was so powerful in her mind that it began to affect everything she did for the Lord. Well, she stopped serving as faithfully as she used to. She ended up ruining her morals and losing her anointing. In the end, the guy took all of her money and left her heartbroken all because of that one phrase. “I like big women”
The older saints of yesteryear watched everything. If you sat in the front of the Church and you moved your seat to the back, they would ask are you okay. If they notice that your countenance has fallen, they will ask if are you okay even if they noticed one day that you were not as praisey as you normally are.
The whole point is this, they understood how powerful bad communication can be. So now the Apostle Paul is urging the Church at Corinth not to stop being enthused about God. For illumination purposes let’s read this same foundational text in another translation.
1 Corinthians 15:58
NLT
58 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.
My assignment this morning is to minister to you on maintaining a Heavenly Perspective on Serving God.
